 Very good and so true, but where would half the pleasure be in following many such threads for those of us who don't get out much for inane banter over a pint.

I say, watts wrong in expending a little more personal latent energy in throwing some extra light on different aspects of a given subject, it may just spark an interest in a different field and generate some additional input rather than the thread just 'switch off' leaving the author with little idea if the post was of interest.

I like the way the Google Ad's pick up on the theme and expand it. (at the time I first viewed it, it was all about light bulbs and energy saving)

What about the inevitable discussions regarding how much easier it is to change a light bulb if you are a Mac user???
Gary
Wouldn’t that just be displaying a difference in fundamental philosophy?

I don't use a Mac any more, just a waterproof jacket!

England doesn't know what rain is does it Gary, we have the heavy stuff, England just gets the left overs?
Even the drain grids around here are over size. The last time we had a major flood it dumped a JCB out in the bay!

Tell me about it! The River Rhondda was as high as I have ever seen it this morning. There were floods everywhere. I'm lucky that I have a diesel 4x4 that is happy to wade up to 2 feet deep, or I wouldn't have been able to get to work this morning. I lost count of the number of cars I passed who had flooded their engines.

Why do people persist in driving through flood water in cars that are obviously not capable of getting to the other side? Or even more bafflingly, trying to drive through it at 30 mph??? ](*,) :-k [-(

Oh and should not this thread be moved to errrr dunno but I'll think of somewhere soon

The answer to that Gary is, I believe, the fact that so many people today have little or no experience of a life where they are not in control and that they simply do not believe that water will wash their feet from under them or float their car away.
Some time ago a woman was killed locally, she saw a Seal and pup on the beach and went down to pet the cub! So help me!
A few weeks ago a woman from London had to be rescued from a local cliff path suffering from dehydration, she'd covered three miles, probably the longest walk she had ever attempted.
The countryside is a foreign country to them.

Digit - I don't recommend you voicing those opinions anywhere near Tewkesbury or Upton-on-Severn. The JCB might not be the only thing dumped in the river !

I know the area well Roger and I agree that floods are too frequent, but the severity probably doesn't match my locale.
Our last flood took out two bridges, stripped one road down to the bedrock, destroyed a culvert, stripped the concrete off of a carpark and dumped all the vehicles on top of each other, flooded a low part of the town upto the bedroom window cills and cost our fire force one inflatable life boat.
Our wind speed record is 106mph and the bloody idiots are talking about extending the nearby airfield for commercial usage.
I would like to know how they intend landing your average Cessna in those conditions.
Having said all that the Fuschias in my garden only ceased blooming a fortnight ago and the Daffs are showing the start of their blooms. Can't be bad!

Roy.

One of the more entertaining aspects (no, I don't really mean 'entertaining', but the word I'm thinking of would fail the 'fit to appear on the forum' test) of living with rainy stuff inside the M25 is to watch the Chelsea tractors edging along at 3 mph because there is some rain water in the gutter.
The merest hint of water spreading into the road, let alone across it, causes the most unbelievable hold-ups, the sight of a string of same 4x4 vehicles creeping along so as not to get their tyres too wet.........you have to laugh cos you'd cry otherwise.

And please don't get me started on the parking!
