Just making up a large island unit for a kitchen. The drawers are ply with tulip front that are to be painted. The bottom pan draws are very deep and I need to allow for movement of the tulip over the ply. In the past just I have used screws with a washer in oversized holes but this is not exactly a neat solution so wonderd how others solve this inevitable problem.

Thanks

bolt handles right through plus a couple of screws inside at the bottom.

But do you make the screw holes slots to allow for expansion and shrinkage of the front? Previously when doing this I have used three holes so the middle one is fixed and the top and bottom have been oversize holes with a washer under the screw but not an elegant solution. Cutting accurate slots is slow but would work but would be better if I could get some pan head screws with larger heads than you can usually get.

I fixed my kitchen draw fronts with screws straight through the drawer in to the draw front. The drawers are on runners, I drilled over-sized holes so I could align the drawer front either way by about 3mm.

Did you use pan head screws Gareth and if so what ones?

I did use pan head screws with a large washer, the washer is about 1". I thought this was the best way as I can continually adjust them as they move.

The screws were 1 1/2" long, I made the drawers out of tulipwood, they are 1" thick

I used countersunk screws and screw cups but i didn't need to allow for movement as my drawer fronts were made of painted MRMDF. Looks neat but maybe not big enough to cover a large hole or slot. I also screwed the handles right through.

I used wafer head drywall screws from screwfix, which are very similar to the Rockler ones.

I attach the fronts with screws temporarily from the front, through handle holes. When all fronts are set/ spaced properly, screw them on from the inside.
Remove screws from front, drill through front and drawer and bolt handles on.
