Home theatre, recently completed

Hi,
Thought i'd post a picture of what i'm doing a lot of at the moment, home theatres.

This one has hydraulic doors / flaps, so push to open then they raise or lower on their own.

Any guesses on timber type welcome.

All veneer, grain following through.

To give you an idea of size its 3.5 metres wide by 2.6 metres high, 50" TV

Lovely new build house, with lots of work to come hopefully

Really Sleek, I do like the design. The timber choice does not thrill me for some reason and I can't guess what it is? Mahog?

My guess for timber would be indian rosewood.

That is a nice slick job...my guess is Treewood, possible stained Mahogany.

Some good guesses there, very close on Mahogany, its stained Sapele.

I really like the way the doors are cut to fit over the screen. Can see from your work that you aim for perfection and this piece shows just that.

just a thought, what happens if the telly goes phut and the same model is no longer available and the replacement is a different size??

The client comes to us and we alter the doors accordingly if necessary, however there is a loose surround, around the tele which can be removed and trimmed, the doors are 20mm from the tele.
Most teles are specific sizes to that company, so pioneer will usually keep a model to a standard size.

lovely work, any problems with cooling?, most of these modern plasma/lcd sets rely on free air flow around them for passive cooling..........
I know for sure that my plasma gets quite roasty around the back and top

there are about 25 large diameter holes drilled in the support board, to allow air flow, also a chimney effect up the back and out the top.
The doors and carcesses are all lipped with solid sapele and then veneered so no iron on edging etc to heat up and peel off :lol:
My worry is that if one door gets damaged they all need replacing.
This is a very high tech house so it was important to get this right with all the required gadgetry, but it al seems ok at present.

This is a picture of it I took today as yesterdays weren't very good, this one shows how the trim sits behind the doors and could be altered if necessary for TV size, also it is just on magnetic catches so allowing easy access to cables.

The unit was made to match the houses internal doors.

Not against edgebanding, as you know Paul, I have an edgebander, but on a job like this, edgebanding would be asking for trouble.

and all the kit will have to be RF instead of IR or the doors will have to be open all the time...?

you're assuming that the equipment is kept in that unit. It might not be. I guess that's going to be mostly media storage?

all compartments have access holes to each other, the equipment is being installed by a specialist, but these days there is a lot of wireless technology and use of infra red senders.
If you look to the left there is a living touch control panel, the whole house is set up for the future.
