HI Folks
Received a newsletter from Karl Holtey and it seems that he is not going to sell kits of his planes as previously mentioned. But he IS going to sell various plane components!!!!
Here's the link...
So if you were hoping to build your own "Holtey" nows your chance
Still not cheap, but you are getting the real deal!
Cheers

So... you can buy the sole, the sides, the rivets, the spacers, the lever cap, the adjuster and the double iron - you just need the wood and don't get a clue as to how to put them togther? Sounds like a kit to me.

Cheers, Alf

Ah, that Holtey kit is a breeze. Absolutely no fears here. I once had the pleasure of actually completing an Ikea  flat-pack cabinet and that was with the instructions. Beat that.

Yeah, got that email last week. First I went WooHooooo!. Then I checked the prices. Not bad! Then I added it all up and converted it to Canadian. Ah. Very sobering. Still a "good" price, but still quite aways from "affordable" for me. Not to mention, not sure I want to drop that much for my very first infill project ... some 'practice' might be nice. Mind you, I expect very little peening/filing and the like will be necessary, and it sure does look lovely.

S'funny but I've never (yet - touch wood) found assembling flat pack stuff a problem. I put it down to a youth spent with a lot of Lego and a total inability to keep the instructions safe. #-o

In our local paper a local "handy man" service (actually a husband and wife team) incolude assembling flat pack furniture in their services (along with the usual fencing, painting etc).

I got the email last week as well. I was excited til I totaled everything up. Very sobering, to say the least. I looked at a few other plane makers trying to cheer myself up but that failed miserably as they're all quite expensive (out of my price range).

So I just grabbed myself an infill off of eBay.

Well, my wife let me know that I'm on notice for all of my recent shopping. I've been busy. Last Friday I won a brand new LN #4 iron for $200 -- that'd be about 100bp. I've gotta lay off the checking account for a month or so.

What can I say but a mighty, "You Suck"!!
Some great buys there, nice one!
Look forward to the piccys,
Philly :D

You just won the understatement of the year award

I can buy a LN or veritas plane for the cost of those side peices alone
