They'll be round with the pig slurry wagon soon enough....

Sigh... more traffic.

One of the many joys of living in the country... it smells like manure pretty much all the time. :-D

At least they aren't harvesting and shooting the chopped straw into the garden as they go past. Which used to happen when I lived more in the country than I do now. At least the combine driver used to tell us he was cutting the field so we could take in the washing and shut the windows.

Aye Its terrible Naz...........the sound of the wind blowing through the barley only drowned out by the noise of a Golden Dragonfly buzzing past ......... :D and then it starts..     :x :x they are erecting a new super barn at the farm and morning til 10pm they are breaking sodding rocks with the Manitou #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o
Nevermind it will soon be autumn......my favourite time of year when our woodland changes to golden brown.

I'm a bit jealous of the view Naz, but as to the rest ... I'm now a bit of a deep rural type now as well. It was not always so , 33 or so years back I got married and countrified pretty near at the same instant. It took 3 years to stop locking the car at my mother in laws farm. My first trip up to Bruce county I swear I could taste the damned manure that was being spread. I was struck dumb by the concept that someone had designed the manure spreader ! Things have changed some since then. Now when I hear a gun I know it's the neighbour dealing with a racoon or something. Now I can see the next doors neighbour house , barely, but if I want to go there I start the car. When I hear horses hooves , I don't think it's a cop , just the menonnites up the road. All things considered I think I'll stay here. Apart from the combines it's pretty darn peaceful. I do miss a decent Jamaican bakery though.

That can't be Wales, there aren't enough sheep...

I live (I suspect) not too far from you Naz, also in a lovely bit of west Wales countryside - nice and quiet except when the RAF decide to do a bit of training on the Cardigan Bay ranges, as we would appear to be used as a waypoint on their fast-and-low attack runs.

You wana think yersel lucky mate!

We have to walk at least 300 yards up the road before we get this view

And, the other day we had the noise of a couple of WW2 medium bombers flying around on a real bombing mission about a couple of miles south! Grumand Trackers to be precise and they were water bombing a fair size fire

Edit : - Ahhh, that don't not seem to work init! It's a bit of video and the 1st time I've tried it

The sheep spotted me with the camera and thought they were about to star in another of those ''rural ****os''. Hence they are all in hiding.

I'm 6 miles from Tregaron... and we love the low-flying days.

I'm 5 miles from Lampeter - I was in Tregaron this morning, at that silly little counter in Spar that purports to be a Post Office.

If you were a sheep would you hang about when there's Naz about?

'twas a travesty when they closed the proper one...

We are about 9 miles from Lampeter, towards Llandovery / Llandeilo. We are surrounded by sheep. There are 2 or 3 sheep that keep escaping from next door, which is really handy because they crop the grass at the base of my hedge and save me from having to strim it. The trouble is, during the rush hour the traffic passing my door gets ridiculous- 4, possibly 5 cars per hour.

I'd write to your Councillor, see if they can get some traffic calming measures in place. Sounds like mayhem.

We just avoid driving out during rush hour. It's much safer.
My main concern is ( seriously now) what to do when the place gets too much to manage. After having 10 acres, I can't see myself living in a town with neighbours and no garden for a workshop. But sooner or later I will have to think about things like access to public transport ( we don't have any), access to a surgery if I can't drive etc. And the big 3 score and 10 is fast approaching.

Is this a Welsh thread only?!!!

The main noise round us the last few weeks has been:-

Combine Harvesters
Associated tractors up and down with grain and then bales
Muntjac deer barking

Oh and I forgot, builders working on the two houses to either side!!

Am contemplating decamping to a smallholding in Carmarthen with wife (both 77) son (44) and his partner (she's the allotment lady). The aim would be to have a large veg garden, woodland, outbuildings for large workshop (first priority), son's recording/filming studio and holiday cottage or two to rent. Maybe a field to rent out for sheep. I do have a lot of family in the area. Any words of wisdom from those who've done it?

1. Bring wellies
2. Bring spare wellies
3. Try not to live downhill from anywhere.
4. Get a full inspection of the drainage before you part with any cash.
5. Don't forget those wellies.
