Just came back from a week in Beautiful Corfu, and just 2km down the road was the Art of olive wood.
here is the website.
This was where Kostas,a woodturner had his studio and one of his workshops.
He came and picked me and my wife up,as arranged by his best friend who was the owner of the place where we stayed.
He then took us to have a look at his work for an hour on Sunday morning.
All his work is made from Olive wood, which takes upto 5 years to make doing a little at a time,as the wood does split easy if not dried properly.
The root ball of the Olive tree gives a rippled effect, while the main trunk gives a more straight grain as can be seen in the first photo.
These sort of pieces were carved out
And heres one for Oldsoke.
Not quite as small as your minis Graham, but still small enough for me
At the end of the visit Kostas gave my wife a tea lighter, and me a block of Olive wood to try and turn myself before taking us back to our apartment.
Very generous.
Take a look at the website, but it don't beat being their
