I'm thinking of selling my Bosch GCM10SD, base included :D for something that will fit under my bench. I had know idea how BIG the Bosch was when I bought it or how much room I would need in future.
I've been having a look at mitre saws on line and came across the Hitachi, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4U-tp0U1MXg it'll cut up to 4" x 6" so cut size should be OK for what I want. Does anyone have one and can recommend?

I think you should stick with the bosch its more versatile and not that much bigger ,also that base unit will be useful for long material and its mobile.

Hello OLD :) The Bosch is a versatile saw, perhaps more than I. But you certainly couldn't pick it one handed like the guy in the video does, being 28Kilo. My biggest problem is space, having had one or two planer thicknessers in the workshop recently it's now given me an idea of how little space there is to move around, even though everything I have is on wheels, bar one bench. I also need to sort out a chip extractor, and of all my machines, the Bosch is the only machine I could down size without loosing anything.

I do agree with everyone rather stick with the Bosch. I have the same saw and they do tend to get in the way and part of the reason is the massive bases we stick them on.

I have seen a base that can be collapsed with the saw still on it and that seemed a good space saving idea to me, I think it was on YouTube.

I used mine to do all the cutting when building my workshop. It was housed in the spare bedroom on the second floor and the daily taking it up and down made me swore on numerous occasions.

Hello JandK :) You'll have to admit the Bosch needs a massive base, and four foot of space from front to back :D I think this will come down to the Bosch V Freezer!
