Hi:
I recently came into possession of a very nice old wooden skew bladed moving fillister plane that appears to have a maker's mark that reads "Hields Nottingham". After waxing and cleaning the moving parts and sharpening the irons I was able to quite easily cut a rebate across the end of a piece of white ash. I am quite pleased with the performance of the plane and was wondering if anyone had ever heard of this manufacturer?

Some pics just so you can't say it didn't happen... :D

I was jsut curious whether this was a big manufacturer or a small shop product.

Thanks for any info

In "British Planemakers" it says..
1830 -1881
consistent directory entries and numerous planes made by him confirm a proprietor who was a considerable planemaker for nearly 50 years.

Hope that helps

Thanks, Philly. All I was able to find was a reference to Axe & Hields as a short lived partnership between William Hields and George Axe in 1831-32 and I was wondering if it was the same Hields.

Take care
Bob
