Just starting out and thought this forum was a good idea.
The only thing I know is that I know nothing but I am keen.
I have an Axminster, startrite 352 Bandsaw and a small converted garage as a workshop.
Made a mouse yesterday from an old fence post and some oak.
So hi there.

I did look at the awgb club list and broxburn is my nearest. However they don't seem to be still up and running as their webpage hasn't been updated since 2015.
I'm in Lanark BTW

I've been learning from YouTube and have found that this with trial and error my catch rate is slowly coming down.
Just learning the tools that I have at the moment.

Buy "Keith Rowley's" book "Woodturning A Foundation Course" read it through and then follow the exercises. Also ask around and see if there are any turners near you who maybe able to give lessons

Will try that through here if anybody is from my area. And I'll try and get that book. Cheers

Hi and welcome. The Keith Rowley book was invaluable when I started a few years ago.

I to have used Youtube to learn, i also went to a turner at the start and he was fantastic he got my foot on the first step so to speak. I have a had a few catches and they make you learn damm quick.
Someone told me to turn as fast as you can (safely, no chasing the lathe around the work shop) and always have sharp tools, blunt ones are trouble waiting to happen., and i still look on you tube it really is a source of info.

Broxburn Club is definately still running. Dave Wilcocks, AWGB Scottish rep is a member of that club. You should find the information about who to contact on the AWGB web site. There is also Strathclyde Woodturning Club in Lenzie.

I have been in contact with Dave Willcocks and as it happens, they are having an Introdutory Meeting for prospective members this coming Tuesday 28th so that is a good opportunity for you.

Dave
