Ladies & Gents,

Someone has sent me a rather nice set of photos "Es war einmal" (i.e. "once upon a time") featuring all sorts of old tools & workshops etc for various trades, all from the 19th & early 20th century. The pix are rather good but the sender has made them all into a MS Powerpoint presentation file (complete with music!) which results in a fiile of roughly 5 Meg.

I think members here would be interested in seeing this but how do I post the file here? I guess I need something called a hosting service but don't have one/have no idea what/how to do.

Any tips appreciated, thanks in advance.

What you need to do is open an account with a hosting service (I suggest photobucket as they're easy) for free. Post the file on the hosting site and then provide a link from a post here to the hosting platform.

Failing that, copy the pictures out of powerpoint and reduce their size using any number of photo editing tools (including Paint which is a free bitmap editor in windows) and then post up here in the normal way.

Myself, I'd prefer the pictures without the PowerPoint wrapping if possible.

Edit; found a technique:

Thanks for the above folks - I especially liked the "lifehacker" link (though I had to go PPT to PDF to JPG to get there). Anyway, hope it was worth it (NO music, etc, as requested):

Warning - picture heavy post:

Blimey, what with re-sizing many of the the pix, then finding Qty 10 pix are the max allowed, this is turning out to be a long-winded job!

The remaining 29 pix are all in simiilar "times gone by" vein, and personally I haven't seen any of them before. But if you want the rest posted please say so, otherwise I won't bother.

Cheers

Very interesting, thanks for posting them.

I particularly love these two pics:

The last pic!

Hope they're interesting. As said, I got them from a (Swiss) mate in a single Powerpoint file, so have no idea what they are/where they're from (apart from the picture of the 1 Deutschmark coin - obviously Germany). When the Whitsun hols are over I'll ask him & any info he gives I'll post here if anyone's interested.

Sorry it took me so many posts - apart from the 10 pix limit, the "Submit" and "Browse" commands appear quite close together on my screen and I kept on hitting the wrong one by mistake ("no fool like an old fool").

:)
