I think my drill might just be the British version of the large drills in that (accounting for the minor design differences) and It looks quite likely that it is from 1920s-40s. I think I will assume that until more information comes to light; there does seem to be virtaully nothing on B&Ds British operations.
 
This drill is from before 1940 because the UK address is stated as Slough. B & D moved from Slough to Harmondsworth in 1940.

I have a 1940s B & D grinder similar to what I see in 1940s adverts and I found it had 10/47 stamped on the armature.
 
I only just noticed at the last minute that this is a post from 2016 !

So this may be rather long after the fact, but for what its worth, I know someone who is a bit of an authority on drills, I believe he is writing a book on them

I showed the photos of the B&D drill of the original posters, he dates it to 1927 to 1932, saying that early B&D drills are hard to date exactly
