Hello! Advice on Axminster ts250 drive pulley

Hi,
I have finally joined this forum after reading your advise on all things woodworking for sometime! I am just a diy’er making odd bits of furniture and my trusty Axminster is now showing its age- rather like its owner! It threw its drive belt but then noticed that the drive pulley on the motor was also worn ina few areas. I tried holding the pulley to release the nut, but no luck!

It will not do well on a vee-belt pulley.

If you read the manufacturer's description, it says "suitable for flywheel and clutch pulleys". There is a degree of poetic license in that.

Use an old large tooth blade and put a wedge between the teeth and the table top, undo bolt.

Before you go too far down the route of pulley removal/buying a new pulley have you considered that the belt may be worn and stretched allowing it to come off the pulley?
Depending on which machine is there a simple belt tightening mechanism that would take up the slack?

And if it is a smooth v belt then replace with a notched type. If you are replacing the belt anyway then gripping the belt together as near to the pulley as you can with mole grips will often provide enough grip to undo the nut.

the only adjustment on this one seems to be on The motor up and down, but the new belt seems to bring it up so high it hits the plate the saw arbor is attached to! The gift that keeps giving!

That’s for that,mine looks slightly different in that the panel the blade arbor is attached to slopes down, whereas the one in the video looks horizontal? Thanks again

Just a thought, on both photos the belt (is it a grooved belt not a simple V belt) doesn't look as if its fitted properly on the larger pulley - almost as if it needs moving inwards 1 groove if that makes sense.
What does the big shiny nut do? Could it be linked to an adjustment?

Whatever the white thing is below the large pully is obscuring two of the three adjustment bolts needed to be undone to adjust the motor position, is this a modification you have done? if you have removed the belt guard, that is why you are having belt problems, you need to cut the duct side of the belt guard off and re-attache the guard to protect the belt.

Thanks Mike, although I took the photo can’t think what that is, as it’s not there now! It’s my gloved thumb on the left, but all good, nothing obscuring the bolts! Thanks again
