Hi,

So as the subject suggests I am a woodworker in London(hobbyist) and I was hoping that someone might be in a smiler situation to me.

As you can imagine buying a house in London with spare room for woodworking is pretty much impossible unless you are quite far outside the capital or have a few million laying around :)

So my question is... Is there anyone in the same situation as me? How did you handle it?

I am assuming that sharing a space might be an option, if you have done that how did you set it up?

Just for a bit of context I am working out of a single room in my rented house. I have a small workbench and table saw which leaves me just enough room to stand, not ideal but I can make it work. If I buy anytime soon it might have to be a flat which would pretty much put a stop to any more woodworking.

On the plus side you might get a influx of items in the for sale section(OK typing that made me sadder than I care to say).

Regards,
Alex

It wouldn't quite be yours... But it's well worth looking into, and it's open night tomorrow!

I'm a member of the Nottingham Branch, I joined Initially for their metalworking facilities, but have since started using it more for woodworking, as having lots of dry, warmish indoor space is a luxury I'd never have elsewhere.

Have you searched for local woodworking clubs? Maybe there's a different way to approach the situation that might be beneficial. Shared spaces and so on. There was a men's sheds thread posted here a while back. While I believe it was started for a certain demographic ostensibly at least, I'm sure they would be a welcoming bunch and not just for men. Might be worth a look? Lifetimes of experience to learn from and good company to boot I'd expect.

Maybe look at changing what you make? Smaller, more detailed stuff?
Never sell your tools unless you are starving. :D

Edit: quick google bought up lots of options to explore. One to get you started: http://createlondon.org/event/blackhorse-workshop/
