I've been reading the thread regarding teak with much interest .
I salvaged some really old shop front windows from a skip a while back , and after a long time
surfacing all of the reclaimed iroko i have ...making glorious space
and having more lumber for benches (hammer)
I'm finally getting around to prepping one face of these once absolutely huge window frame lengths
so that it can be sawn into whichever shape the job calls for ....

Finally having space to bring my remaining stock from the other shed
mainly a big stack of around 13' lengths of this stuff which i was guessing was teak ,
but not so sure now ....
The stuff weighs two to three times heavier than most of the dense iroko i have ,
and needs a lot closer setting on the cap iron working the quartered edges ,
Although I've just rough worked these faces for I.D

Anyone care to take a shot at identifying this species
Thanks folks

I forgot to mention theirs meranti and iroko on top of it for some contrast .
Would the lighter of the two planks with the round holes mortised for door locks be white meranti ?
Here's some more pics ...hopefully bigger this time

I salvaged some almost identical-looking stuff from a skip when they replaced the front of our local Indian takeaway with a metal and plastic shopfront a few years ago. I've used it to make a couple of window sills around the house. I just refer to it as "tropical hardwood" (!) but it could be one of umpteen different species AFAIK. Cheers, W2S
