Hi All

Looking for a bit of advice especially from any Hammer bandsaw owners.

Received my N4400 bandsaw which should have been a pretty joyous occasion - my first properly new pro bit of kit. I bought it after hearing some good reviews and had intended to use it to resaw some veneer and cut stool seats.

Trouble comes when during set up and tried to true the table up to the blade and couldn't get it square both sides. Hmmm ... straight edge across the width of the table showed it was out by approx 0.1mm. Nice dip across the width deepest half way where the blade passes through. Consistent across it.

Contacted Felder who told me it was within their tolerance. Odd as my Axminster is pretty much dead flat and costs half the price. True its not a massive dip but is going to make life a bit tricky which is pretty much not what I paid for.

Any guidance or am I being too picky.

I assume its a cast iton table?

Cast iron is prone to warping, usually castings are seasoned but they tend to move a bit when being machined.

Sometimes they warp a bit when bolted down.

I would say 0.1mm Is within tolerance
 
0.1 is perhaps with tolerance.
It might be helpful to unbolt the table to see if the error is in the table or is caused while being assembled.
You might then be able to figure out a way of rectifying it.
 
Well thanks, all these things are true; will have to have a play and see what can be done. It is annoying though to pay so much for something and have such a basic fault come through QA. Would've thought Felder would manage to put out quality gear at their prices.
 
Just checked and the table on my N4400 has a low corner. As you stand to cut the far left corner falls away by maybe 0.5mm. It is flat within about 0.1mm left to right and front to back at the blade. To be honest I have never thought to check both sides of the blade. Just set the table with a square on one side and put it to work. What matters is does it do what you want so you need to use it and assess the results.

My experience is it is an excellent machine. Has done everything I have asked of it accurately and consistently, including deep cut 2mm veneer.

Have you tried adjusting the 4 trunion bolts underneath to try and solve it?
I would plum the machine first if not done allready, and set the table level so you wont be making excessive adjustments.
You could try and shoot for perfect on the right side of the table, and wedge a 90 degree stop block
underneath the left of the table
However, I don't know how much movement you could get on a table of that size, before you would be being a bit of a gorilla with the wedge, putting too much force on the components locking it down.
It might be a bad idea if you were adjusting the table regularly as you might be with that machine.
