I know this is on series 2, but if you have not watched it then you are missing out. This is a fantastic quintessential documentary who's qualities are hard to find these days, considering the amount of rubbish usually found on the box.

It is currently on at 6pm each evening and if you have not seen it then I highly recommend watching an episode.

I also think Michael Portillo is a great presenter.

I agree entirely. Michael Portillo comes across as a genuine guy, not throwing his self importance about as so many do.

Yes it is a interesting series and no doubt will be repeated. I didn't relised rhubarb was so fascinating and their were hundreds of rhubarb farms before the war and it went out of fashion but is now making a comeback. Michael always has lots of space on the trains and looks idealic and not the overcrowded misery many comuters have to put up with.

Had this same conversation with the missus only last night. portillo came across as an utter slimeball as a politician but this program is great and has completely changed my opnion of him a sa person.

Cheers

My only complaint - typical of documentaries of this type is that a potential 30 min program is reduced to about 20 mins by going over what was seen last time, what we will see this time and what is coming up next time.

I enjoyed series one too and agree that MP is a good presenter. He did a couple of programmes a few years back about his spanish ancestry which were equally fascinating to watch and informative. Well worth the licence fee.

yeah - well look at the lines he's on, and the times he's travelling.

He ain't been on the 08:00 Norwich-London...

Yes some of the local history on the lines he has travelled I have found very interesting.

Don't like his shirts tho.

BTW We get a very poor reception or production quality on everyone of those broadcasts which is not apparent on other broadcasts.
