Mrs H has decided that the guest annex that I'm using as my workshop is going to have to be returned to its former glory so that we can sell the house. We want to move back to Somerset, but it's not straight forward transferring jobs etc so we want to move into rented until vacancies arise and we can transfer quickly. Until then, after I've finished off a couple of projects (oak l&b doors) I'm going to have to load up my workshop and put it into storage. Heaven knows when it'll be back up and running - I'll be lost without it.

That's bad news, indeed, Rob. Meanwhile if you want someone to look after all your tools and wood and such then I know somewhere midway between the Fens and Somerset....

hi rob

what , be without a workshop :?  never that don't bear thinking about ooh makes me feel all wobble  .hc

That really sucks. However, the prospect of a new and improved workshop is on the horizon. So something to look forward to, I guess.

Hi Rob, although Ive never had a propper workshop, last weekend I also packed up all my tools and locked them away in storage - I know exactly what it feels like to not have access to all your tools!

Hi Rob, I know how you feel, my tools have been in the spare bedroom since the end of May. :( There is light at the end of the tunnel though and it's not a train! I'm planning mine now. It's going to sit here, I'm buying a 14x10 ready made workshop, I've just got to build the base.

Just focus on the positives, the next place you move to may have a bigger space for a workshop. Good luck with your move.

Decent penknife, bit of a twig and whittle away. Not quite the same but in times of adversity. . .

Sad new but, I wish you all the best. At least you'll be closer to both Axminster and Yandles in your next workshop! :D

If I was in your shoes, I'd be thinking of selling all my machinery (except power and hand tools) and re-buying again once I'd moved in to the new place... So, I greatly admire your determination here, it's the best way to do it! :)

It's certainly no fun, try commuting 3-4 hours per day and drinking more, it's working for me...

ifb it were me , i wouldnt be selling the house until vacancies have arrisen, been aplied for and secured - then in the interim you can rent in summerzet and rent yours out until you can sell it

at the moment the housing market is knackered and also house prices are depressed - moving into rented could be an expensive mistake if the market recovers before you move

Unfortunately, it's catch 22. The vacancies will come up at short notice. We can't get a transfer if we aren't in a position to move, so if everything goes ok jobwise, and then we can't sell the house, we'll have lost our chance and it could be a long while before the job opportunity comes up again.

That's what I'm looking forward to - I've already got the workshop planned in my head. Need to get the house to go with it now.
