I've made some mock oak screws/dowels that will join a dirty great iron church door hinge to a piece of shaped wood that will wind up as a bookend. The dowels will need to bond both the iron and wood. Would you use grip fill, araldite, ca glue???

Knifemakers used 2-part epoxy to glue wooden scales to metal blades, so how about some of that?

THE brand is probably Araldite, but nowadays most of the generic stuff is ok, and cheaper.
Don't forget that if you've any faffing about to do, it's best not to buy a quick setting one.

I use the Wilcos stuff it works very well.
