I've been given a S/H SS sink. It's a bit scruffy but basically usable.

But in dismantling it for cleaning the gasket around the overflow has torn. The rest of the gubbins is fine. Does anyone have any good ideas for material to use to cut a new one? It's about the size of a matchbox, but only a few mm wide.

Maybe your local garage could help ,some proper mechanics still make gaskets and may let you have some, or maybe liquid gasket would do.

Off cut of inner tube?

This works well, although it's best if it's at least 3 or 4 layers thick. You can glue them up oversize with contact adhesive and then cut out the size you need

That's a good idea, chaps, TVM. I used to have a bag of bits of rubber, I'm not sure if I still do, I'll have to hunt in the log cabin. That's where most of the junk is. I could lay my hands on some instantly in my old workshop! :S
