From the above sketch, the worlds most expensive pse pine (diy store as it was less knotty and straighter than the builders merchants), a bandsaw and a bit of paint. A quick pressie for the old dear - her two four legged 'grandchildren', Tad the Westie and Buster the border collie awaiting paint (although at the moment he looks more like a retriever  )

Cheers folks, a simple woodworking project for youngsters or beginners and of course one could use a coping saw etc.
Obviously the idea and designs are from a photo in the link in the first post above, so if anyone wants to purchase a planter go there and buy one ;)

I really wanna use the f word and say they look fkin awesome ! They look like a pair of excited pals. Seeing them finished side by side has made me smile.
I like everything about them ! The black outlines also highlight the different layers really well.
When they've got flowers in them aswell.....amazing ! My favourite project I've seen for a while.

Nev, how about getting a couple name tags engraved with their names on- only a couple quid each from eBay.
I'd hammer a post in the grass and have a long chain going to them- that'd really give the neighbours cause for concern !

I like the name tag idea but they're being delivered tomorrow - nowt last minute about me :)
Might go cut some on the scrollsaw after my steak and onion sarnie's gone down :D

I'd have never thought of doing them on a scrollsaw, that'd be even more bespoke !
I think I'm a little obsessed with them- sorry

Absolutely fantastic Nev ! I'm not sure I could have parted with them. What was the new owners reaction ?

The recipient (my mum) was well chuffed, as were Tads 'parents', looks like I have to make another one or two. and a cat. Only problem is 'they're too nice to put outside unless we refurb the garden' #-o
