Just a note to say a friend who had this level of cover on another vehicle has found out the hard way that a box on the document was ticked so as to exclude commuting to a place of work..
Sneaky!!!

Double check your doc`s

Andy

That's highly unusual and if true very sneaky. I have business mileage cover on mine, adds a bit more to the premium

Not unusual at all, imho - social domestic and pleasure is the base price comprehensive cover.

I've always had commute to work as a standard on any policy I've taken out.

For anyone getting a renewal I recommend Noel Dazeley, excellent broker, usually get the best price, if they don't then they'll match. Not afraid of quick cars either

This is interesting. I've always had business cover just in case I needed to use my car at work but my understanding of 'Social, Domestic and Pleasure' was that the 'Domestic' part covered travel to and from work but not work use.

S/D&P including commute to and from the place of work.

HMRC will not allow travel to and from work as a legitimate business expense; therefore it must be a 'social, domestic, or pleasure' activity.

Mustn't it?

Insurance companies are weasels and not to be trusted. Check the small print.

Hi,
I don`t think I am stupid but could someone please explain this to me.
I take it you are not covered to drive to work. Does this mean you are driving a vehicle that is un-insured for the journey ?

I think you need to check your individual policies. I have mine with elephant at the moment and this (as well as every policy I have ever had) includes commuting under the SD&P banner.

Each time I have renewed I have either asked for confirmation of this, or they have offered it as information without being asked.

Cheers

Mark

You are if you have S,D&P including commuting to and from place of work.
Check your policy.

Am I really dozy ( its eminently possible ) ....
but, in the event of an accident, is there a history of the insurance company ( assuming you'd actually speak to a human being, not just 'forms' to fill in.. ) ever asking..
"and where exacty were you going sir ?"

More fool you, if you tell them

" To buy **** and a paper".
Stock reply.
Problem solved, job done.

That is the kicker Jenx. No matter where you have an accident, surely you just say 'I was going shopping', who's to know any different?

Cheers

You'd probably get away with it, unless you ran someone over in an expensive enough way for the insurers to start really caring about coverage. They'd soon find out if they had enough reason to pay someone to look.
