Hi, Does any know of any Freud circular saw blade suppliers other than Amazon or eBay? I've searched the net and only come up with a couple of suppliers, besides the two mentioned, but they do not stock a decent range. I'm amazed that there appears to be so few outlets doing a full or extensive range of Freud blades. All else failing I can buy 30mm bore blades from a company who trade out of Folkstone on eBay, but I know Freud do a 1" bore blade and the Folkstone company do not supply these blades. Can anyone help with a supplier that does please?

Cheers Froggy.

Tim,

You can view the range of blades here http://www.freudtooling.co.uk/catalog1/ to get the part number you want and there is an email address at the top of the page where you could ask about agents.
I read that their blades are made in Spain - whether that opens any other routes for you?

I won't tell you about the 1" freud blade that I bought on ebay for next to nothing and bored out the hole 30mm to fit my saw as it might only upset you

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Bob

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Bob - I went on the Freud site and clicked on the 'Agents' link and it seemed to get in some loop and never provided a list. If it stops raining long enough for me to get in the workshop today I intend to strip the planner and post you the offending part. Hope Janice and yourself are keeping well.

Brian - I looked at FFX on eBay and I may well end up buying their 30mm bore blades, but they don't supply the 1" bore blades that I'm looking for.

Roger - I'll look at Stephens Saws as soon as I've finished this post, thanks.

My local saw doctor has some Starrett blades (which are made by Freud) on special offer. Stephens Saws in Worcester.

Starrett make their own bandsaws, holesaws and jig saw blades and have no connection with Freud.

That's not what my saw doctor said. Are you saying that Starrett don't make circular/table saw blades?

Those Starrett blades not only look like Freud ones (apart from the writing being on the other side(?)) but also have freud part numbers.

Does that make them Freudian?

I've only bought a few bits from these guys and don't know a lot about them (other than that they are a local supplier of woodworking machinery to the trade in Northern Ireland and are not a mail order based business per se) - but they seem to carry a fairly decent stock of Freud blades and will supply mail order: http://mjwoodworking.co.uk/tooling/sawb ... ed-sheets/ They might at least be worth a look.

In the broader sense (and from some distance) I get the impression that Freud in the UK are probably mostly focused on industrial and commercial users, and that as a result they maybe don't figure very highly from the more hobby oriented sources that have a high profile on the web.

Maybe a call to Freud UK would extract some information on their suppliers. http://www.freudtooling.co.uk/catalog/ There's a network of smaller tooling suppliers and sharpening outfits over here that stock all sorts of blades - including some very good German made stuff that most of us would not recognise the name of - but there's no chance that they will be on the web, or at least not in a way that will come up on a search.

Chances are there's quite a few of these sorts of businesses in the UK as well.

Commercial/industrial users of blades don't seem to much rely on branding - at least not in the way the DIY market (made up of many very inexperienced low budget users) does.

The fact is that many of the brands doing the industrial quality items also offer cheapo/cut to the bone quality lines too - so as you mostly know you have to get more specific than just the brand if you want a given quality of blade.

My impression is that blades are much more of a price/function viewed commodity item for the commercial users. They will most likely be handed a trial blade by a sales guy - and if it performs and the price is right will probably go for it until something better rocks up.

The result is probably that a big flashy web presence isn't going to deliver much of a return for the sort of local industrial blade supplier mentioned above. But they are about....

Unless you search at Cutting Solutions where I sell a wide range of German and othe manufactured blades

Was that a one inch Bob? The one I bought from local supplier as 'one inch' was actually 25 mm. Amazing what you can with a file though!

Roy.
