Yes but I aksing if there is something that only has the inards to do email and web, not the rest of the gubbins.

I'm not into mobile phones but something along those lines.

BTW, I was inthe Epson forum the other day and they ban anyone from the forum who runs down PC/Mac/Linux.

It's via email and web that most of the average users problems arise these days.

Cheers Mike

DW, the iPhone and iPod touch will do what you want, although I'm not sure if the iPod Touch has a seperate email client, but it does have a browser so you can use webmail. I use Gmail which is excellent and I rarely get any spam through it, it's a lot nicer have the google servers at risk from attacks than my own machine :)

I have an old computer and a windows 98 cd.

and I have been advised to do the following.

quote
If you have plenty of net bandwidth you can download Suse Linux, it's 5 CDs of stuff, everything you could imagine. The basic install just sets you up with a workstation with web/email/Office and graphics software.

Like Ubuntu it just works and is secure, and it's actually easier to install than Windows

Does this mean I can dispense with virus software which slows my new computer down?

You could, but would that be 100% safe?

The free scanners such as antivir are also avaialbe for Linux. Do to the differences in the resource management and scheduler the same program slows the computer much more down in Windows than it would on Linux.

AVG gets my vote too. I used to use Zone Alarm for a firewall but found it a bit resource hungry now use Comodo which is free and uses hardly any.
