Hi
I am in the process of buying a planer/thicknesser.
In your opinions should i go for the;
Scheppach HMS2600Ci or Fox F22568

or can anyone recommend a similar price machine.

Also, is it me, but i can't seem to be able to search the forum?

thanks in advance

Hi Nickthetent,

Welcome to the forum.:D

The best way to search the forum is to use the Google search on the home page, the search link at the the top of this page does work but is much harder to get useful results from. :roll:

I have the fox but i understand the Scheppach has rubber rollers that do not mark the wood on a light cut.

That's very true, OLD. But, it only really applies to when you are taking very thin cuts (less than 0.5mm?) where a common thicknesser with serrated rollers would definitely mark the timber.

Personally though, I try to avoid taking such light cuts unless I'm using a hand plane. And, anything that does go through a machine is generally going to be cleaned up and finished by hand, in my workshop anyway. :)

I own the Axminster AW106PT machine (identical to Fox, but £100 cheaper!) and I'm very pleased with it and how well it performs. I had a bit of trouble getting the surfacing tables set up properly (Axminster were happy to oblige; it should be factory set to near-perfection) and they knives weren't terribley sharp, but did okay until I could afford to send them off for sharpening.

I have the Scheppach and can't fault it, although I've nothing really to compare it to. I find it smooth, simple, easy and reliable.

Speaking as you find, I have found the Scheppach absolutely :D :D :D !
I have had it for six years, and only wish they had done it with the cast iron base then. It has been superb.
