is that basically the same as the poolewood super lathe but with a different paint job ?
 
Intriguing as there are two features I've never seen before.

Is the turn wheel on the main head some sort of indexing mechanism ?

And is the shaped shelf over the head and motor shaped that way for some purpose ?

The one on the rear of the spindle has indexing holes built in. The one on the front with the handle is the adjustment for the Reeves Drive variable speed.

Edit: somewhere Blister has a thread on reworking a similar lathe but this is the best shot of the gearbox inners from his thread. The front handle operates the wedge system to the left of the front pulley.

No particular reason other than to provide a shelf over the top of the gearbox, It's cast so rather chunky.

From what I can see it looks like the

Hand wheel acts as a 5 polly v belt would

and

Whatever position you leave the hand wheel in , you then have variable speed above and below that speed setting

If you get what I mean :lol:
