Hello

I have decided to sell my waterstones. I just can't be doing with the constant flattening and the mess (great salesman aren't I?)

1 x 800g King Stone
1 x 1200g King Stone
1 x 6000g King Stone
1 x Nagura King Stone
1 x Veritas Stone Pond, with glass lapping plate and I'll chuck in my makeshift stone holder

They are high quality stones. None of the edges are chipped. Well over £100 worth of kit. Make me a sensible offer. Postage will be tricky but doable, via courier I'd have thought.

Come on man, grow a spine

A bit of work with the stones makes that edge so much more rewarding.

The downside is that SWMBO says it looks like furious self abuse when she spies me sharpening away in the garage and can't see what I'm doing

a set of 8" DMT Dia-Sharps I think

Wizer - I had almost exactly the same set up (including the pond) and flogged mine years ago. I replaced them with a green DMT extra fine and a fine diamond stone (forget the make) without 'holes' :) for doing smaller chisels. If you really want to push the boat out you might want to consider the Spyderco 10000g ceramic for the final micro-bevel. Newt and I have got one and they're the dogs whiskers  for the final edge...plus of course the 'ruler trick' for the back - Rob

Well I think you'll live to regret parting with waterstones, although I do know all about the mess and the space you need for a workable setup. However, if you're absolutely certain then I'm interested in the pond and the 800 stone at least. If everything has to go as a set then I I'd have to think hard about justifying the duplication (although another 1200 would enable RC type flattening by rubbing them together).
If you haven't had a better offer by Friday why don't you pop round with them and we'll "negotiate".
Bring your MkII and that smoother blade as well if you haven't sorted it, and we'll put our heads together.

Might be an option Mark as I have had an offer for 1200 and 6000. I'll pop in tomorrow afternoon as I'm back at work now.

Nice one. I'm in the WS all day tomorrow. I'd really like to try the pond out in a real-life situation, if it works for me (and I think it might) then consider it sold.

finally someone else who cant be bothered with messing around with these, :) , i had ws for a while but now back on oilstones again much better in a few ways

I had exactly the same setup, pond and the same stones. The mess never bothered me that much, it was pretty easy to keep clean and dry, but the flattening although never used to bother me, became an issue, I dont have much workshop time so any unnessaccary tasks have to be eliminated, so I too sold the setup and am waiting on getting a set of three DMT's instead.
