I want to buy an on /off foot switch for my Dremel. I have done a web search and there are loads to choose from--any recommendations for a good solid foot switch?

The most important aspect of your requirement is that it is easy to operate, the current aspect is going to be minimal with a dremel. I am also looking for a foot operated switch to use with my Domino 700, it allows you to handle and control the tool without having to worry about keeping it on so better accuracy.

I have looked at several on Amazon but there is a lot of simularities and different brands which makes me hesitant:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Momentary-...9521370&s=industrial&sr=1-4&ts_id=10256328031
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Momentary-...521370&s=industrial&sr=1-23&ts_id=10256328031
This one with a guard to prevent accidental use

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Switch-Mom...521370&s=industrial&sr=1-17&ts_id=10256328031
Then one from a known OEM with a price to match https://www.amazon.co.uk/Schneider-...22062&s=industrial&sr=1-103&ts_id=10256328031

You could look at plastic ones but more easily damaged https://www.amazon.co.uk/TFS-01-Mom...9522307&s=industrial&sr=1-9&ts_id=10256328031

Looking elsewhere I found this which is how I intend to wire the foot switch, Foot operated pedal switch (Single & double socket options) and they also do a latching version where you operate to turn on, then again to turn off, Foot operated pedal extra heavy duty - Latching

I am looking at only momentary operation, ie hold on and release is off and may give one of the amazon products a try, not sure which but will post when I decide.

This arrangement could be used.

I have my footswitch wired into a extension so I can use it on various tools. It mostly lives on the drill press so I have 2 hands free.

Looking at footswitches on Amazon I am amazed at the sellers, pronounce this one Cheng Du Mei Yi Duo Mao Yi You Xian Gong Si located at this address

218 Hao 2 Lou 8 Hao Huang Zhong Jie Jin Niu Qu,
Cheng Du Shi
Si Chuan Sheng

They are all selling near identical items at whatever price they can get, does not fill you with confidence.

Well I purchased on of those footpedals, Foot Pedal Switch,AC 250V 15A 1NO 1NC Momentary Treadle Nonslip Aluminum Foot Pedal Switch TFS-402: Amazon.co.uk: Business, Industry & Science

and it is ok, will certainly do what I want but it is more sewing machine than industrial and is a lightweight diecast item. On closer inspection the plastic cable gland is the wrong thread and not fit for purpose, plus the cable clamping arrangement does not meet minimum electrical standards, an even bigger issue is that no provision has been made to allow connection of the CPC to the main enclosure, and the painted cover would rely only on its fixing screws for a connection to the CPC. I can use a decent cable gland for retention of the cable and will have to fit a screw using star washers to connect my CPC and probably the same for the cover.

Just an update, looking at getting this into use and I have found none of my electrical fittings will fit the thread provided for the cable entry, it turns out that although this is an elecrical foot operated switch they have provided a 1/2 BSP thread so no problems if you want to connect it to your plumbing but not so easy for a cable gland.
