Fold up table

Hi All,
Thought i would post my latest project which is a fold up table. Not fully detailed with pics but enough to get an idea I believe.

I used some wood from transport boxes I got from a place down the road from where i live.

The top glued up in its pre sanded and planned state

Top with a round over routed all the way around and sanded.

Cutting the mortice for the cross support on the legs and with the tennon in shot

The table standing open

and one where it is collapsed

Finally one in use serving its purpose

in all it took me about 8 hours to make (not including glue drying time). Still need to paint or stain it (not decided yet) and I need to sort out the hardware (cut down the threaded bar a bit more and get some lock tight or nylon locking nuts for it.

Happy with how it turned out but it i was to do it again i would take the legs a bit further out width ways as it is a little unstable but good enough for its purpose.

Nice little project, however your eye is going to be drawn to the nuts and bolts if they stick out proud of the legs, if you PM me your address I'll send you a couple of M6 fastenings which I think will look so much better.

The nut I would screw in from the side of the leg where it can't be seen, fit a washer between the legs and secure them with the cross dowel bolt, it would mean you have to fill in the hole already drilled, if you have a plug cutter you could cut them from a piece of left over scrap.

Yeah I'm going to sort the hardware of it. I don't think I can use the first link as they are to large for the thickness of wood I use on the leg. But something of the sort could work well

I made this one a fe weeks ago. Im no chippy but it was fairly easy to make and the folding action is quite clever. No bolts needed either, just a few screws and some dowel.

That looks pretty good actually.

I think the one I have made could be made without hardware as well really. I only used for bolts for the whole thing but I think you could get away with dowels really

I used some t nuts in the legs with some pan head m6 bolts much more pleasing the the eye than thread bar haha. But i like the look of the cross dowel m6 bolts you sent me so will be getting a pack of them to finish the table off with and for future table builds.

If memory serves me right, I got the bolts and associated fittings from screwfix, although if I were you I would try Toolstation, they may sell them in smaller quantities.

yeah i typically go to toolstation as they are usually cheaper I got the t-nuts from there and the pan head machine screws but they dont have the cross dowel bolts or insert nuts which is a tad annoying. will probably just get them from screwfix as i will find a use for them anyway (got a few orders for the table from family so I no i can use a few right away) I might go for the type E insert nuts as they can be Recessed into the wood.
