Hi

I'm sure I'm not the only woodturner who also enjoys fly fishing so I'm hoping you might be able to help me.

I'm looking to buy some new fly lines, but wonder what is the best all rounder? If price was no object, what would you use and why? I use a 10ft rod with 7wt line and I mainly fish for trout on lochs and the occasional river.

Cheers

I like the airflo ridge lines, they are not the most expensive but I find them excellent. I only fish with nymphs with a 10ft 6-7 rod the the airflow floaters do everything i want them to do. I also tend to use very long leaders in order to fish the nymphs at various depths. Hope this helps.

My Son does a LOT of Fly and coarse fishing in Bavaria*, he uses Shimano rods, I asked him which lines he uses and why.

His answer:-
I always use Cortland line: http://cortlandline.com/
It has no memory, so no matter how long it is on the reel, it comes off on the cast absolutely straight, no curls...

I've just within the last half hour seen samples of the line via Skype and it ran off a Fly reel in a straight vertical drop with not a sign of curl. He said even first cast of the season comes off straight, no need to make practice casts to straighten the line.

* it's considered hunting there and not a sport, and is highly regulated you have to kill and eat all caught fish.

Hi Jamie i use Scientific Angler weight forward i find them good value for money and i also use a 10 ft rod
Do you do any salmon fishing ??

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback. I've got my reels in the shop being sorted with new lines as we speak!

No, I've never done any salmon fishing. I only got back into fishing last year so I'm still finding my feet. I'll try salmon fishing one day once I've got the hang of catching trout!

How do you cope with the gnats or midges they used to drive me mad up with you
