Hi all

Hope somebody out there can point me in the right direction.

For one of my Secret Santa gifts over on the Hand Tool forum I am making a gift which requires some flat brass stock, say 3 mm thick and 25/30mm wide. I only need about 300mm of the stuff.

Is this the sort of stuff I can pick up in B&Q? Or anybody got an on-line recommendation?

Cheers

Karl

I have a little local place I use - I just assumed most towns have somewhere similar you just have to track them down.

This one is my local - not suggesting you would want to use them, but I'll bet theres a local equivalent in one of your neighbouring towns.

I have a lot of flat brass stock 3 mm x 19 mm, don't suppose that's any good?

Waka - i've just been into the workshop for a quick measure up, and that size would be fine. Fancy swapping some for an extra SS gift?????

I use Ringwood engineering on e-bay. They've got a good range of materials, and their service is second to none.

I second that! I get my brass from them and they are brilliant. Got some 4mm recently so sure they have 3mm

Cheers

The only thing I don't like about Ringwood is that they say on each item page their delivery can be up to 11 business days. They may well be much quicker in practice but I rarely can take that risk when I need something special for a customer job.

This is possibily a matter of luck but I go to the local scap metal man with £5 notes in my wallet.

You'd be amazed at the "industrial offcuts" these folks sometimes get.

I'm with Lurker, I didn't realise it was that pricey, a few bob to the boss and help my self!

I generally buy my stuff from ME Shows I attend (Sandown Park yesterday).
There's also College Engineering, Blackgates, Noggin Ends and Chronos.

Ringwood Engineering is about 30 miles from me and have bought a few times directly from them. Brass comes in several grades but for your tool I'm sure any grade will do?
