No, not some long forgotten confectionery...

I know I'm not the only one to get this but I don't know how commonplace it is either...
Some evenings, when I'm very tired, I get a strange feeling in my legs that I can only describe as 'fizzy'; my legs feel uncomfortable and it doesn't matter what position I get into it doesn't get any better. It's also pretty impossible to ignore.
The only remedy is to go to bed which always cures it.

Do many other people get this? I'm sure I once saw a medical explanation for this but I can't find it again, can anyone shed any light on it?

I used to get that quite a lot. Really annoying, isn't it? :x

I read somewhere that it was caused by static electricity in clothing. Running your wrists under cold water is supposed to help 'earth' you.

I can't actually remember if it worked for me.

Bryn :D

Do you suffer from Back problems? Could it be Sciatica?

The only other thing I can think of is Restless Leg Syndrome? In any case I would go see the doc. Might be something easily fixable/treatable.

I get this a lot,it's really annoying but i think it is something to do with work related back problems and sciatica.I find walking around for a bit stops it.

Hi Terry - I've no medical knowledge or anything, - do you think maybe this could be something to do with circulation ?

Definately go get it checked out....
I've ignored 'drinking gallons of water, visiting the bathroom every 40 minutes, and being eternally sleepy' for a wee while, and I found out yesterdayI have type 2 diabetes.

So I guess the moral is to go to the doc at the first sign of anything untoward.

Hope you find its nothing to worry about and easily fixed.
For sure - go and find out.

Sorry to hear about the diabetes, Jenx. I got that message about 5 years ago, and it's taken a long time to get it sorted.

If you need any help/advice (or just someone to swear to) PM me.

If I had fizzy legs I think I'd see the doc asap!

Hi Terry, I'm not a doctor, but a heating engineer, that may sound daft but really it's quite appropriate, the human body is virtually the same as a wet central heating system, it's all about flow and return and circulation, it seems to me that whilst you are sat in a chair, an artery is trapped somehow, and when you are horizontal the artery is fully opened, I would suggest you get your legs checked for varicose veins, these dont always appear on the outside of the leg, and may be internal, hth.
regards,
Rich.

Hi Guys

All helpful replies so far... well most of them (ahem Chris!).

Just to clarify something, this feeling isn't at all painful, just a nuisance.
It's never been enough of a problem for me to think about going to the doctors and it only ever seems to happen when I'm tired. Other times I can sit and watch telly for hours (sad git that I am) with no ill effects.
Most peculiar!

Hey Terry

I remember watching a thing on tv that may be related.
I think it was referred to as 'Restless Leg Syndrome', or something similar.
Apparently some people get it so badly, their legs spasm and jolt uncontrollably.

Sorry can't remember anymore, but I believe the sufferer found a specialist who helped relieve if not cure the condition.

Terry, been on your feet all day/done a lot of walking when it happens?

does the sensation start in your calves??

if so, and I have no medical expertise, but sounds like a buildup of lactic acid in the leg muscles, your options are walk it off (raising your heartbeat , and getting more oxygen via the blood to the muscles ,dispursing the buildup ...or as you have already found sleep where the body balances out the buildup....
But if it happens on a regular basis, I would get checked by your quack if just to eleviate any doubts...

HTH
