I would like to make something that fits on the end of my painting pole which will operate a squirty bottle with weed killer, to eliminate ferns growing out of my chimney stacks. I have seen them online but thought it would be an interesting challenge to print one. The mechanism will be the interesting bit but the real challenge will be to get it to fit on the pole. I have two options the plastic taper or the screw thread.
Do any of you have any suggestions how to accurately produce either the internal taper or thread? I would think that the taper will be the most forgiving as long as the angle is absolutely accurate but the tread would make the most solid fixing.
Both are pretty standard and interchangeable between poles but I can’t find online accurate dimensions to work from.
At the moment I use Sketchup but I suspect there are better programs I'm not familiar with.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Martin

Cheat.

Print something that is a rattling fit on either but has some retaining barbs or cavities. Wax the original well and pour in epoxy.

An alternative might be that hot-water-moulding plastic (morphplast?).

How far did you look for the thread specification? First hit when I look up 'paint pole thread' is this:

They even spell thread in the same manner that you have done.

Second opinion:

You are much better than I am doing searches, I couldn’t find anything remotely technical. That’s a good idea about moulding plastic. I have some from another project. Thanks

Like ChaiLatte I too say CHEAT.
Buy whatever attaches to your pole, cut off the gizmo and glue the piece with the taper/thread to your own bottle squeeze.
Have fun.

I did have fun as you recommended but I didn't need to cheat!!
I realised that if I made bottle holder a pinch grip and the taper was more or less accurate it would fix firmly to the end of the pole, which it does.
The ugliness of the clamp is mostly due to the stubbornness of Sketchup to accept the subtleties of my design.
The whole is thing assembled and to works. I have yet to see how well it does fully extended to 5 meters, with weedkiller and operated from the top of a ladder, to knockout the ferns growing out of my chimneys?

...I have yet to see how well it does

I wonder if one of those pump-up pressure sprayers might help you (e.g. https://www.onestopcleaningshop.co.uk/product/1l-budget-pump-up-pressure-sprayer/). Then the stop/go is just like flicking a switch, and you could latch it in the 'go' position.

I fear that the vigorous trigger action necessary at the base of the one you show will have the top waggling around all over the place.

Can you put some temporary dye in the juice you are spraying so you can see what you have covered from a distance.

You are probably correct, though pulling on the cord pulls the bottle tighter into the jaws. I’ll have a little practice with water. This was as much about getting back to making something on the printer as anything else.
If my design doesn't work I'll certanly think about the spray bottle in your link, it would be very straight forward designing a grip to hold on to the pole and fun making a linkage to press the button from 5 meters away!!
Thanks for your thoughts
