Had a bit of time on my hands today(well all afternoon) so I shut myself in the shed, plugged the mp3 player into the stereo and switched on the lathe 8). Three hours later I emerged with this....
My very first hollow form I haven't got one of those fancy hollowing tools(yet) so I used my bowl gouge then a round nose scraper on the inside and the outside was done with my spindle gouge. The walls are about 3mm thick and there are a couple of ridges inside(nothing major though) but as I could feel the bark inclusion on the inside I thought it better to stop than have the thing in bits scattered around the shed.
I have no idea what the wood is,it was picked up from outside a nearby house where it had been left with a sign that read "free firewood"(along with some largish ash boughs ).
The finish is two coats of danish oil buffed in with a cloth and then a hard wax over the top(more blended in really). Comments/critique appreciated.
cheers JT
