I dont like firefox, everytime this morning I followed a link in a thread posted at ukworkshop I could not return to the uk forum.
Both Wizer and Escudo posted threads with links and I had to reconnect (lost my new posts page as well)

Is there a way round above problem?

Also firefox wanted adobe Flash on the Escudo link, but not the a different place one by wizer.

DW, I am no geek so I cannot begin to understand why you are having problems with firefox.

I have just checked Toms videos and the ink to the BBC on escudo's thread and I have no problems with firefox. I must add however that I am using a mac.

I would suggest that it is not firefox but your settings/plugins etc that are at fault.

Andy

I am using firefox when i go to the european woodwork post and click on the vid. it opens in a new tab (Top of page not as IE) when finished click cross on tab and back to post .
Cromifox extreme 3 is the themes i use
I have just noticed :-tools-options-tabs. open new windows in new tab instead is 'ticked' and also always show tab bar.

It's unlikely to be Firefox as such. I use it all day, every day, without issues.

There are some nifty shortcuts too:

Within Firefox, if you control-right-click to follow a link, the link will open in a new tab. The original page stays unchanged.

In contrast, any UK Workshop links within threads will open in a new browser window. It's the way the forum pages are coded (I've checked), not Firefox. Using [ctrl]-right-click will open a new tab instead. Try it!

Also firefox wanted adobe Flash on the Escudo link, but not the a different place one by wizer.

That depends on several things: (1) if the Flash plug-in was installed in the first place (it's a do-it-once sort of thing), and (2) if the link itself went to a Flash object or not.

The two links might not have been the same. In any case, if you've got the Flash plugin installed now, you shouldn't need to do it again (unless Adobe issue an update, in which case it will tell you.

HTH,

DW - Not a criticism or anything remotely related.

I'm somewhat surprised - I've never known anyone to have so many PC\Laptop\Connectivity issues.

I reckon Mrs DW has been secretly taking PC courses & each tome you nip into the workshop or out of sight, she rubs here hands with glee and makes a few registry changes and voila! Your busy for a few hours!

Is some soap\programme on that she likes to watch?

Dibs

p.s. On a serious note - I've used Firefox\Chrome for ages and haven't had any issues (other than real minor) to speak of.

Yes I do agree the last month has been an issue with web stuff. switching out of i/e8 doesnt help either after using for 10 years and been able to work with my eyes shut.

So I have got the following issues unsolved.

Laptop will not let me sign in with i/8 no Java.
" will not let me use firefox no adobe flash.

Desktop i/e8 will not log me into forums

Router will not connect to desktop without pulling out a power lead and inserting.

But I am having a very active life working my computers, (btw an engineer could not solve some of the problems above and I paid £30, and Amazon have refunded £44.)

What's your laptop model\make?

What's the O\S?

Cheers

Dibs

p.s. Not being pedantic - you mean a PC Technician, an Engineer is something wholly different, but that's by the by.

Laptop is Toshiba
L550-1CC 17.3"

W7 home edition

Yes a computer techinian, also Toshiba have run me through the settings, also Virginmedia and no one has managed to solve any of the issues above.

So I use three browsers on the laptop to do various tasks that only it can perform.

The desktop I have given up using i/e8 at all.

I think I have tried to put in i/e 7's but they get upgraded by windows updates

I have spent the last few minutes trying to download i/e7 but when I get to run, it refuses to continue and informs me there is a later version, tried at least 6 different links, anyone got one that works or have they bagged that one for entirety?

DW - rather than fart about with this Laptop and get one and all involved, IIRC, Tom (Wizer) is a certified Tosh chappy. Drop him a mail and I'm sure he would be happy to quote you for it - and I can't imagine it would be anything other than reasonable.

I am still using Windows XP with internet explorer 7 on my home machine and never, never update any of it without any problems at all. I am an old stick in the mud who believes if it is working fine and does what I want why change it. SWMBO has updated her computer to Windows 7 and is having nothing but problems with it. I can't help her with it either as I have never used it. I have only recently updated my laptop to internet explorer 8 and am still getting used to it. I very much doubt that I would upgrade to Windows 7 unless I am forced to and I even decided not to buy a new laptop when I found it would come with Windows Vista on it!

Being using Firefox for yonks DW, it must be all the grumble vids you're downloading and filling your hard drive up with trojans :D

Dibs, Amazon offered me a full refund 10 days ago, but its the wifes laptop and seeing there is nothing except W7 available we took a discount instead hoping the system will eventually work out.

I will pm Tom, and see if he can offer me some inside gen about what my trouble on the laptop is.

I can understand where dw is coming from. With the latest version of Firefox I find that browsing and using the web isn't as 'clean' (for want of a better word). I can, for example, make a reply to UKW and submit it. In the past, I seem to remember FF closing that window down and yet often if I go off to a few other tabbed windows and come back, I find the Reply box still open with my message in it.

Accessing eBay can be a pain and I regularly have to clean out eBay cookies which I never had to before.

Accessing some bank internet sites, something seems to stall in the data transmission. Get the 'Loading' message and it just sits there and sits there. Hitting resend etc brings up the new information almost immediately.

OK ..could be the internet sites. Hard to say. Must try Safari again.
