I've finally taken notice of the firefox reminders to upgrade to the latest greatest version - 3.5.
I'm glad I did - much faster than 3.0.x :)
The web now seems much faster even on a really old laptop.
Highly recommended - and I haven't tried any of the new features yet...

3.5??
I have my Firefox set to auto update and its only done 3.0.11 :? so off to look now

Perhaps they have some clever algorithm to spread the load of the automatic updates over time ?

Anyway, I started the update, but it told me that some of the extensions I use aren't compatible ... e.g. Tab Mix Plus, so I stopped it until I get a chance to check that out.

TMP does not work in 3.5 Lee

I've had 3.5 for a couple of days. They do indeed vary the auto upgrade process to save load on their servers.

TBH there's not much in this update to be excited about.

The AVG Toolbar is what was messing with my New Tab button despite being compatible. Disabled it and it all works just fine now.

FWIW - Safe Mode is a handy way of quickly eliminating problem areas with a fairly broad brush approach.

(Apart from a few other add-ons not being compatible which is a pain but it doesn't usually take long for them to catch up).

Seems to run faster and have a new `Open a new tab` button, not sure what else is different yet but seems ok BTW found latest version of AVG taking too many resources and changed to `Avast` seems better but my laptops 2yrs old

There might not be Tom, but the speed up alone is worth it on my old laptop :)
Anyway, I don't tend to use any clever features or add-ons - this laptop struggles to browse the web sometimes ...

I'm pleased I've helped others though :)

If you carried on through the update process then FF will then ask you if you want it to check for the updates. Depends how critical the extensions are to you, I guess.

Mine takes AGES to load the first time after boot up. 40 seconds or more. That's for the application, not a page. Thereafter it's not so bad, but it never used to be like this. I've swept and cleaned my registry, my AV is up-to-date. I'd love to know what it's trying to do. It's a bit of a pain.

I had the same problem with both Firefox and I.E. on just one of my machines for over 6 weeks. after a Firefox update, 3 other machines (all machines XP PC's by the way) were fine, all to the same update standard.

Then after a major MS update about 3 weeks ago problem cleared.

All checks for malware etc. proved negative during the period,

Google Chrome was not effected significantly but that does not run the security hurdles or work correctly with all PHP software.

Guess some major reference dll or such used by Firefox and IE (security?) was corrupt or wrongly referenced/wrong version.

i wish mine only took 40 seconds, more like 1 1/2 mins to boot first time then its ok.

You could try changing the Target field under properties (when you right-click on the icon) to: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1

The key bit being the " /prefetch:1" appended to the end of the path.
