This is a 4ft small double bed, made to fit our small spare room. It is made from sapele, with ebony pegs. The finish is General Finishes Candlelight gel stain and dark wax, i also mixed some black wax with the brown for the mouldings, I also carried out a light distressing.

Nearly eighteen months in the making, partly due to completely re-modelling our bedroom at the same time, I am very pleased with it.

Your comments good and bad are welcome.

Richard

Invisible bed! Just have to take your word for it, but I'm sure it is very nice.

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I had, mioght have to wait til tonight now

Phew!
Files where too big (hammer) , looks redder in the photo's than it really is, it's actually much browner under natural light. I may try some more photo's in natural light at the weekend if anyone is interested.

Thanks

Richard

hi Richard
very nice bed =D>
my rule of thumb is
if swmbo lets it in the house it must be ok - so you definately have nothing to be ashamed of there
well done
cheers Paul-c

That looks wonderful well done =D> =D>
I like the style and colour of the bed not sure it goes with the flooring though
Did you design it yourself or copy or adapt it from plans
Not much room for anything else in there :D
Well done again
Dave

Thank you all for the kind words. I didn't work from plans but rather made it up as I went along, the design evolved in much the same way, it is basically an amalgamation of varoius classic design elements. I know what you mean about there being not much room for anything but the bed. This room is quite long and thin, there is a reasonable sized wardrobe at the other end. Really a single bed would have been better, but as all three of the boys have left home now and insist on sleeping in their "own" rooms when they return with their partners, a double, all be it a small 4ft one, it had to be.

Thanks once again

Richard

Nice Greene & Greene feature with the 'ebony/ised' pegs. I like it.

Nothing to be ashamed of there Richard. =D> =D> =D>

John

Like the pegs a lot. Greene & Greene I would say. A really classy detail that many casual observers would miss. But as they say, the devil is in ... Nicely done.

Looks fantastic!

In the 6th picture down, how do you achieve the profile on the plywood?

Many thanks, Will.

Hi Will
thanks for your kind comments. There is no ply on this baby it's all solid timber. The floating panels are 12mm thick and re-sawn from 3" boards, the mouldings around this panel where done on a router table and pinned on after. The cap rail was profiled with an ogee raised panel door bit and the reeding around the edge was done by hand with an old Stanley No66, stopped chamfers on the legs where done with a router and stop blocks. The scrolls under the rails I did with a homemade template, router and a bobbin sander.
Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Richard
