Hello all, very newly registered to this forum but have been an avid spectator of the site for several years, picking up tips and enjoying the converstaions. Woodworking is a hobby that i have "played with" for some time but want to get more involved in now the kids are growing up.

SWMBO has wanted a filing cabinet for some time and i have promised to make it for her. Has anyone any plans/links that can be posted?

Much appreciated if this is possible.

Hello and welcome. I don't have any plans either, but what might benefit you more would be to start up a debate about the piece you want to make, you'll pick up a lot more that way and also have something that meets your needs.

You'll need to think about purpose of the piece, dimensions, location, size restrictions, timber you like, finish, cost etc etc

Cheers

No plans I'm afraid. However if it is a full size 'standard' filing cabinet you are after, the wooden ones I have seen/used have been a wooden carcase with standard internal fittings and drawers with a wooden front planted on.
Perhaps you could start with a pre-used :) one and work from there?

Thanks for your comments, I have a rough idea of the plan in my head and have discovered sketchup so will draw it out for views/comments.

It is to be a two drawer cabinet with height to match existing oak computer desk (ex dressing table).

My early attempts at projects have all been with a rough plan in my mind and i now realise i should either following an existing plan or create a drawing and plan of my own.

Thanks again.

blum do a draw insert to suit this purpose - thus you'll get soft close and good quality draw units etc....
