I understand there's both a new and an old version of the Domino jointer. Does anyone know the key differences and how to recognise one from the other? Thanks.

There was apparently an infringement of a Mafell patent on the spring-loaded pins used for location, so Festool had to re-design this part of the tool. The new model uses hinged plastic wedges.

Check here and here for more info.

This is the only difference as far as I know. If you can get hold of the old model I would recommend that you do so - I'm sure Festool wouldn't have changed the design unless they had to and I'm very happy that I have the version with steel pins.

Cheers,
Neil

That's a pity :( I tried out a Domino some time ago and thought those metal pins were one of the key features.

Oh well, can't afford one anyway.........

Cheers

Thanks Neil, that's cleared it up. I just bought a Domino off Ebay, it's almost unused but didn't have a user manual. When I downloaded one it shows the plastic flappers but my Domino has the original metal pins.

Hi Custard, this manual by Rick Christopherson is much better than the one which comes with the Domino anyway.

Cheers,
Neil
