My cheap little Vax vacuum cleaner that we use to clean the house has caused us enough stress that it's going to the tip. It cleaned well the first few times then the filters got clogged and it's impossible to clean them. There's enough design flaws in the thing to make even me, with my limited common sense, angry.
Anyway I have a couple of vouchers do money off festool dust extractors. I wasn't going to bother but I had a look and there's the CT17 for £180 which looks more like a standard vacuum than a dedicated dust extractor and would come in at about half the price of a Dyson or similar, which is the only thing I'd consider buying now.
In all honesty the vacuum would mostly be used for cleaning up after the dog. My workshop is small enough that a dustpan and brush puts the biggest dent in the mess and I occasionally get in to the corners with the hoover. The dog however thinks it's the best thing ever to walk through the lathe shavings then run them through the house and chew firewood to pieces on the rug.
The most strenuous tasks for it would probably be cleaning dust and ash from around the fire and hooking it up to saws and sanders every so often.
Would the CT 17 be a good idea or am I way off base?
