has engraving ever been a feature on commercial planes? I would be surprised if it hasnt, at least at the top end of the market.

I've never seen one advertised in a catalogue - it seems to be restricted to personal flights of fancy and presentation pieces.

Hmm. Those holly handles. They've managed to make wood look almost exactly like plastic.

Each to their own.

Well, holly does look like that - perhaps Catherine could have been persuaded to scrimshaw the wood?

:D

Mmmmhh! Americans, of course. That reminds me of the way they like to "embellish" their firearms. Craft may be excellent, but not really to my taste. Would that be meant for working, or just for display (in which case, useless...)?

The British do it too - there are some stunning "presentation swords" in the Leeds Armoury displays,
which (I'm happy to say) were never intended to kill people.

I seem to remember an article some years ago in which Karl Holtey was considering engraving as an option. Not for me on tools I'm afraid, but then I don't much like the relief decoration on Disston saw handles, which look a bit cheap to me. A good engraving or etching of the makers name is a bit different, however.
No logic there.

I simply LOVE engraving on tools...this is my favourite...

Don't have a problem with either of these - the makers are rightly proud of their work. Twiddly bits for the sake of it, not for me. No benefit to the use of the tool. Suggests it's destined for a glass case.
I think that some of the most elaborately engraved guns were duelling pistols.
That needs some thinking about.

Don't be too hard on the holly. Give it about 300 years and it might start to look like this :)

Now THAT is fine craftsmanship applied to planemaking. Crisp as a new dolla' bill.
