As the title I wish to mount a Face mask into a picture frame and looking for suggestions on the backboard to use, it will be black either painted or natural, Phenolic seems to be very expensive and am a bit unsure if plywood will be good enough, the mask itself has nine Dzus fasteners that push through a suitable size hole, any further suggestions welcome. Thanks for the suggestion, would MDF have a smooth look, I don't generally use it, bit old fashioned like that.
 
Decent mdf should be perfectly smooth, I think many here have suggested spraying it for the best finish but that's not something I'm any good at
