Hello all

I'm thinking of buying one of these

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/10283/Cle ... actor-230v

Or one of these

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp? ... =1&jump=44

The Rexon moves 276 litres per second and the Axminster does about 140.

The only things I have which need extraction are a lathe and a SCMS, so I can move the hose to where it's needed.

I'm planning on hanging it outside in a 'sound proofed' box and fitting a bag made of coarse material.

Firstly, do you think the Axminster model would be adequate?

Secondly, both extractors appear to have NVR switches. I don't want to have to go outside every time I want the thing on, so I'd like to extend the cable and fit the NVR switch inside. If anyone has either of these extractors, do you think this is feasible?

Cheers

Dave

I have a SIP 1hp ( same as axmin.)mounted in a separate enclosure and it works fine with a p/t etc but is two bag type so better flow.
I removed the nvr and covered the hole. its two wires in, two out just connect them through mine is plugged in to socket via remote switch unit so i can operate it from where i am at the time.Used the nvr on the router table.

Hi Dave

I'd be very surprised if the 2 machines weren't efectively identical. The discrepancy in flow rates is almost certainly due to the fact that (I believe) Axminster have a policy of quoting airflow on their extractors with the filter bag(s) attached. Others are less forthocing about real world performance and the figure quoted fro the Rexon sounds like maximum flow with no resistance.
With both machines however the collection bag is also the filter; expect performance to drop noticably as soon as dust and shavings begin to impede airflow. The cheaper 2 bag versions are only marginally more expensive and require a great deal less emptying.
None of them will do well with extended hoses or stopped down inlets, as performance will really take a beating then.

Extending cables and moving NVR switches to remote locations is childsplay. Like OLD said just blank the mounting box lid, bypass and remove the switch, and mount it somewhere more convenient. I've done it with both of mine and it makes life much easier. On a motor with this kind of rating you don't really have to have an NVR at all if you're sensible about usage (and there's nobody else involved).

Hello Mark

Thanks for the reply. Good point about the declared flow rates.

I think you are right. I'll go up to Axminster and have a look and hopefully, a listen.

Cheers
