Exotic nut???

I have seen an exotic nut that's been turned? About the size of a big pine cone and I think it's from Kiwi Land? Anyone able to tell me what it is called please???

The only nut from that neck of the wood that I know of is a banksia nut. Would be interested to see what nut it is you are talking about.

That's the one Dalboy. I had the name on the tip of my tongue, but with a tongue like mine :shock: :shock:

We saw a banksia coaster on the desk of the bloke doing our conveyancing this morning. He had been told that it was a eucalyptus branch???

They need to be cleaned out of any bits otherwise they fly everywhere so a face shield is a must as well as a mask as they are very fluffy when turning them. You can make some very interesting things with them.

They do make very nice coasters though 8)

I have to admit that I haven't had the desire to turn them. Too many holes, a bit like French plywood :shock:

Look good if you fill them with colored resin then turn. Good for pen blanks
