Hi all.

I'm a member of some other forums, so I know what it's like to have first posters coming in asking for a bunch of advice...but I've been browsing these pages for a while now and it seems like a friendly community here.

Anyhow, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a skilled master furniture maker in Europe that possibly has an artistic angle to their work?

Thanks :)

Jason.

Europe is a bit of a big place, relatively speaking. Can you narrow it down? Are you specifically speaking of the UK? (A nation that never really likes to admit it's part of Europe)

Welcome...and again, why? - Rob

Why? To be honest, and without sounding like a corny story line, I'm trying to follow my dream. At 26 years old, I've become bit of a Jack-of-all-trades, having held jobs in many areas. But I've been working with wood most of my life...carving, box making etc, in a non-professional way. For 6 months however, in Australia, I did work professionally as a joiner...And I want to continue.

Long story short. I want to offer my full time services to someone in return for food and board.

wizer, I didn't mean specifically the UK. And I'm aware of the divide, quite literally, between the UK and mainland Europe...please don't think I'm trying to tarnish with the same brush :p I did leave it quite open because honestly it doesn't matter at this point. In about a month I'm able to go pretty much anywhere I want. Obviously language could possibly become a barrier but I believe this is not much of a drama.

Like I said, I'm under no illusions here. I'm not a contributing member of the forum yet and expect nothing. And I am certainly not trolling these forums for work from members. I am genuinely asking if anyone knows of a particular individual on mainland europe who makes practical pieces with an artistic bent (carving, inlay, marquetry?). Google search and endless research has netted me nothing...

Very strange post if you ask me?

Mike

^ Very strange name if you ask me! :p

I guess it does come across as strange...but I'm in a strange circumstance, so I suppose it's fitting...

Cheers for the links bjm...I'll check them out. :)

I don't see anything strange about asking for work. You went about it in rather and odd way tho.

I wish you good luck. But in the current economic climate I think you'll find it hard to find the sort of work you want.

although maybe not - if hes only looking for room and board rather than actually pay ( a Wooof type arrangement) the current climate might work in his favour

actually jarrah you could check out the Wooofing website , its mainly farmers but you do get craftsmen posting sometimes.
