Eucalyptus bowl

Finally got round to turning the first of a couple of lovely big chunks of eucalyptus. I don't know why it has such a bad reputation. Sure it ties itself in knots and splits like crazy when drying, but that just adds to the interest and it can have some great colours. First turning, 54 x 12 cm, hoping for 50 x 9 when dried and turned a second time.

According to the specs, the lathe will cope with 74cm. I intend to test that if possible...

2 problems with really big stuff: lifting it on as I don't have any kind of winch and where to put it once finished - you would need a mansion for a 70cm fruit bowl which i am sorely lacking!
