Thanks to dickm the guide bush question has been answered. In case anyone searches with a similar question this is what his manual shows,

Elu-177.jpg

The "guide bush looking thingy" is indeed a 30mm guide bush, but a pretty novel one that can be adjusted to any depth below the router base plate, presumably to accommodate different template or jig thicknesses.

What would be the purpose of that? I can see the reason for having a very shallow one, but what advantage is a deep one? It's not as if it could follow an undermounted templet and still be of use?

You've nailed it!

Hi Custard,

Whilst digging around yesterday, looking for something else in a box of old router bits etc, I came across these.....

You can see the biscuit/slot cutter mounted on & off the Elu shaft.
The self centering cone is an old one and is a bit rusty on the surface but it will clean up. I have a couple more of them somewhere, so if you would like the one in the picture, its yours for the cost of the postage..?

Regards, Tim.

That's fascinating stuff. Interesting, though, that there doesn't seem to be any mention of using that threaded arbour in any of the (extensive!!) collection of Elu routing stuff that sits around our house. Nor do there appear to be any listings of the cutters that might be/have been available for use with it. Unless you know something different?

Personally, I have never used that threaded arbor with the slot cutter you see above....! It came with a couple of other bits that fit the old Elu routers that I was given many years ago.
The shaft does look a bit short to fit in the collet with the slot cutter mounted on the bottom. I would imagine that the router would need to be set to pretty much maximum plunge depth to give enough clearance for the cutter to be protruding down far enough.

I think you can still buy attachments that fit on these threaded arbors, such as the examples that SteveF posted a link to.

It is odd that there is no mention of them in the Elu router manuals etc though..!

EDIT. Here is one of the slot cutters that Trend offer to fit this type of arbor

https://www.trenddirectuk.com/34-10tc

and the description of its use " Trend 34/10TC Slotter 3mm kerf M12mm bore These slotters have a M12 threaded boss to enable them to be threaded onto the arbor without the need for a securing nut"
