I note from another thread there are a few H&S officers here.
We already know there are quite a few IT folks

Does Woodwork somehow attract Anoraky Pedants do you think??

In my case the H&S label comes from being departmental H&S rep - a position kindly given to me on the basis that nobody else was a permanent member of staff (research contains a large number of temporary contract staff). It is a minor part of my job, but I have to keep up with the legislation etc etc. So although I am H&S officer, its is in no way my full time job. Actually its a pain in the backside but sadly its a necessity in this day and age, what with common sense being such a scarcity

Oi!

I'm the Village Pedant round here, thank you very much...

I'm not sure Woodworking attracts IT nerds, I just think this forum does. Or rather the internet does. When you see the crowds at woodworking shows, very few of them are members of this forum and there aren't many other UK forums, certainly none this successful.

I can't speak for H&S, but the connection of obvious, where there is danger, there is H&S. Kind of like the devil and the angel...

..right time for me pills...

I think you'll find "pedant" doesn't need an initial capital.

But Village Pedant does...

and village pedants don't.

Or something pedantic.

On a less daft note, in school we were all H&S, inasmuch as we all had a role in spotting possible dangers and reporting them.

One I found was our builder (Bob the Bodger, cheap but not very cheerful) who had left an SDS drill (plugged in) in the busiest corridor during breaktime, when he popped out for a *** or three. Along with his whole toolbox, extension cables etc. He got very cross when I packed it all up and put it into the staffroom, and he wanted to know what sort of kids we had who would touch his tools if he left them out...

He said we should tell them not to and that would sort the problem.
