OK, if I hung around for long enough, I might have got a better deal, but this way I get a guarantee, and it was only £39.14 at B&Q

I've tried it out and (though I've never had one my in hands before    ) it feels quite light and it's a little belter. And, what's more, that huge heap of miscellaneous logwood has been tamed and stored :)

Jeez! It cost me more than that just to have my big Stihl serviced.

Word of warning, work within the capabilities of that saw, most of the small saws like that, including B&D, and others have a plastic cog which drives the chain gear inside. If you let the saw struggle you WILL shear the teeth off this cog. If you can get a spare it is fairly easy to repair, just a pain in the butt. It always goes at the wrong time.

PS - Omitted to say that I bought 2 saws similar to yours a few years ago (returned stock) and still have one in the shed. Great for just trimming off any blanks you are working on. Still use mine when I can't fit a piece of timber under my bandsaw.

Thanks for posting this LW. I really could do with one, might see if my wallet has any cash hiding behind the cobwebs ;)

I also give a word of caution. I have an earlier model (3 yrs ago) and although it is powerful and effective, the reliability is a bit suspect. There is a safety interlock which operates a clutch inside and it is plastic and prone to wear. I dismantled mine as I thought this part was broken but it turned out to be a bit worn. It works but sometimes needs 3 or 4 attempts to engage properly. Also , when operating on the extreme end of the chain bar (I know you shouldn't but there are occasions!) there is a horrible rattle. Dismantling is a hit fiddly.

Mine has not had a great deal of use but I wouldn't fancy it for intensive work. Try to avoid cutting with the grain and also avoid cutting stumps really close to the ground as the soil will blast up into the teeth and do your chain in.

LW what was the warranty on that?

One year guarantee Wizer.

Husband has a big McCullough petrol thing, which is absolutely no use to me, and he's having problems with it anyway. This is easy for me to manage, but I will take on board all the warnings and advice. Thanks men

Hope he has better luck with the Maculloch agents in the UK than I've had. They are now handled by Husqvarna, who are another branch of Electrolux, and their so-called customer support needs a hefty kick in the wotsits. :(

dickm - he's got a friend who sells all sorts of kit, right up to tractors. As it's on a yellow card, I think it might end up with him.

Got your pm.
