Hi Guys,

The brushes on my dw625ek have gone and when I took the top off to get them out I realised they were well buried and it looks like a job too far for me. As anyone changed theirs? And if so is it as hard as it looks to replace them?

Thanks Froggy.

If I remember correctly the brushes are hidden below the speed control unit and a nest of cables. Surprised me too! You just need to take things out in order and remember the cable routes. If you're not happy doing it find a dealer that does repairs in-house - few and far between these days but there are some.

Edit - just seen where you are - sorry, I know nothing about French dealerships!

Thanks Paul. You're spot on with your description and I have no idea of any dealerships in France. So I've ordered the brushes and I'll have a go myself.

I have recently changed mine and they are pretty straightforward. As has been mentioned just remember where the wires are routed and which screws go where. Did you find that the brushes are sold individually! I was spitting nails when I only received one brush and rang the dealer to be told that De Walt are the only ones to do this? Why, they are always replaced in pairs!! :x I guess they can make more money out of you this way.

If you have any problems I'm happy to take mine apart and help you through it. I used to own a tool shop and my engineer taught me loads :) Let me know how it goes.

I Mailee,

I contacted the supplier to check this, but the supplier I used sell them in pairs.

Cheers, Froggy.
May I ask who yoou bought them from Froggy? I used Miles tools and machinery and they cost me over £16 for the pair!

I changed mine by sketching the wiring, then labelling them with sticky labels fragments wrapped round the cables at least 1cm away from terminals. They were easy to pull off as I re-assembled.

There is actually a very good complete disassembly video on utube. The bloke shows exactly where all the screws are and how to get the bearings off for replacement. It may be of more use than you think, if, like me, you discover it wasn't actually the brushes, but a boggone* commutator covered in carbon deposits?
