Thanks for posting this - really interesting and inspiring.

I went through some of Bill Pentz's stuff but it's just SOOO comprehensive I was having trouble seeing the dust for the trees, as it were!

Bongo. Do you by any chance have a list of materials you bought to make the cyclone?

Many thanks,

Henry

Hi Henry,
I am afraid not. I bought them in a few batches off e-bay and lost count. If you look at the cutting diagrams in the cyclone making steps, you should easily be able to get together a list polycarb sheets you need (maybe if you do you could share them here? ).

Agreed about Bill's stuff, it is possible to loose days on his site and then realise you may know a bit more, but are more confused about what to actually do than ever. I spent a lot of time reviewing his stuff

Rather than Polycarbonate (Lexan) you'll find PETG a much better material to work with on cyclones.

Probably a good point, PETG plastic is nearly as tough as Lexan but is much easier to machine and does not shatter with solvent even when under tension. The only real problem with the PETG, I am told, is that you need to buy the stress relieved stuff or it bends all over the place when you work with it.

Okay,

I've had a good look through Bongo's stuff and in case it's of any use to anyone here is what I reckon you need. Please feel free to correct if you think I've got anything wrong. (I was working from the MKII version.)

Upper Body:
15mm acrylic: 2 of 250mm x 700mm (this is for holding together and mounting)
1.5mm polycarb: 200mm x 1600mm (this is rolled into the 150mm dia body)

Cone:
0.75mm polycarb: 600mm x 1000mm (cut out and rolled up)

Air Inlet:
3mm polycarb: 210mm x 240mm (mitred into box)

Ramp:
1.5mm polycarb: 200mm x 200mm (cut out split circle)

Air outlet:
0.75mm polycarb: 200mm x 600mm (rolled into 75mm pipe)
[OR 200mm length of 75mm pipe]

Hot melt glue to join it all together and don't forget lots of maths to get all the angles right.

Cheers,

Henry

Hay Henry, thanks for this.
Just though I would add, that the 15mm thick acrylic, could just as easily be plywood or similar (might save someone a bit of money) - though it may not look quite as pimp :p I just happened to have that acrylic left over from another project...
Cheers, B.

PS mind if I nick this to put on the instructable? - it is a good list of materials needed.
